The Cholera outbreak in Haiti has caused nearly 8000 deaths since its start in November of 2011. Just this week, 100 democrats from the U.S house of representatives called on the UN to take responsibility for the tragedy. Researchers believe that the disease was spread from a Nepalese UN base at the north of Haiti where it came down the Artibonite river into the slums of Port-Au-Prince.
On the justice side of this situation, there are American, and Haitian lawyers that are in the process of suing the United Nations in order for financial compensation for the cholera victims. Former U.S. president Bill Clinton stated that he believes that the source of the disease was from UN peacekeepers within the country's borders, but also attributes it's spread to the country's dismal sanitary conditions. Clinton also added that, for now, it is more important to treat those who are infected rather than bring justice to those responsible.
